Roland-Garros: thirty years of contemporary art in posters

From Saturday, May 22 2010

Roland-Garros: thirty years of contemporary art in posters

Poster grand slam.

In the last thirty years, the posters for Roland Garros, the French Open, have been designed each year by a great contemporary artist, including Joan Mirò, Antoni Tàpies, Jan Voss, Eduardo Arroyo, Jean-Michel Folon, Arman, and so on. To celebrate the success of this idea, gallery curator Daniel Lelong decided to put on an exhibition showcasing the posters of the last thirty years, each seemingly more original than the last.

This friendly collaboration by international artists (although no American artist has ever contributed) has aimed from the beginning to address the very latest in contemporary art. Over the years, each president of the tournament has continued in this tradition. Alongside the posters, some works of art by the same artists will also be exhibited. Discover the latest work of Nalini Malani, who designed the 2010 poster.
